Thriprayar Ramaswamy Temple

The temple stands on the banks of the Theevra river in Triprayar, Thrissur district, in a location that has held religious importance for centuries. The name Thirupurayar itself means "The Sacred River in front of Temple," indicating the river's integral role in the temple's identity. Over time, this waterway became part of the Canoli Canal system, which developed as an inland water route by the end of the eighteenth century, connecting Kozhikode and Kodungalloor.

Thriprayar holds a distinctive place within Kerala's pilgrimage traditions as one of four temples in the Nalambalam circuit, each dedicated to one of Rama's brothers from the Ramayana—Rama, Lakshman, Bharat, and Shatrughn. Thriprayar, dedicated to Rama himself, is traditionally visited first in this pilgrimage sequence. Morning worship begins at 4:30 a.m. with the temple opening, followed by Usha Pooja at 5:00 a.m. Ethruthu Pooja runs from 5:15 to 6:15 a.m., with a Seeveli (procession) at 6:30 a.m. Pantheeradi Pooja occurs from 6:45 to 7:15 a.m. The Kalabham ritual takes place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., followed by Ucha Pooja from 11:30 to 11:45 a.m. The morning session concludes at noon with Ucha Seeveli and the temple's closing.

Evening worship resumes at 4:30 p.m. Deeparadhana (the lighting of lamps) occurs at 6:00 p.m., with Aathazha Pooja and Seeveli from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. The temple closes at 8:00 p.m. During Karkidakam—the monsoon month in the Malayalam calendar when many devotees undertake special spiritual practices—the temple extends its morning darshan to 3:00 a.m., closing at 12:30 p.m., and reopens from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
