About Thirupalkadal Sreekrishnaswamy Temple

Located in Keezhperoor village within Chirayinkeezhu Taluk, Thiruvananthapuram district, this ancient temple stands as the Adikulakovil (original family temple) of the Ay kingdom, who ruled during the Sangam period. The central deity is Krishna depicted as a four-armed standing Vishnu holding the conch Panchajanya, the discus Sudarshana Chakra, the mace Kaumodaki, and a lotus with a holy basil garland. According to historian Dr. M.G Sasibhooshan, the temple was constructed around 2000 years ago with a square-shaped sanctum by the Ay Dynasty's Keezhperoor Swaroopam. The 9th-century renovation by Venad King Vallabhan Kotha further enhanced its significance. Though not listed among the 108 principal Divya Desams, the temple appears in texts as an Abhimana Kshetram and is glorified in the Divya Prabandha as one of the 14 Divya Desams in Malai Nadu. The temple's history intertwines with the Chera and Chola empires and the kingdoms of Venad and Travancore.
