Tiruttani temple holds deep historical significance, with origins tracing back to the Sangam period when it was mentioned in the classical work Tirumurugaatruppadai composed by Nakkeerar. The temple was subsequently patronized by Vijayanagar rulers and local chieftains. According to tradition, Lord Muruga arrived at this location after vanquishing the demon Surapadman at Thiruchendur to calm his divine fury, which is why the Soorasamharam festival is not observed here. The temple architecture comprises four precincts crowned by a five-tiered gopuram, with two main shrines—one housing Lord Muruga in the form of Shaktidhar and another dedicated to his consorts Valli and Deivayanai. The hilltop location offers serene vistas of sunrise and sunset, making it a peaceful sanctuary for devotees from across the world.
