This temple venerates Vishnu in his form as Soundararaja Perumal, accompanied by his consort Lakshmi as Soundaravalli. The shrine is believed to have been constructed during the 16th century CE by Achyuta Deva Raya and exemplifies Dravidian architectural traditions. The temple is noted for its finely carved sculptures featuring meticulous details such as muscles, nerves, and eyelids rendered with artistic precision. The shrine maintains a connection with the Kallalagar Temple in Madurai, and like that temple, Soundararaja Perumal is believed to grace the Kudaganaru River. The temple features a golden Akarshana Bhairava deity, venerated for resolving devotees' financial difficulties. Devotees observe the Chitra festival annually over five days.
