Shri Pathirakali Mariamman Temple stands as a venerable shrine in Thirumangalam, approximately 20 kilometers south of Madurai. The temple features multiple sanctums dedicated to different deities, with primary focus on Pathirakaliamman and Mariamman, each maintaining their own worship spaces and altars. According to local tradition, the temple holds special significance as the place where the sacred marriage ornament (Tirumangalyam) for goddess Meenakshi of Madurai was crafted, lending the town its name. The temple was formally established in 1852 by the PKN community, with its first consecration ceremony conducted in 1857. The founding community later expanded their spiritual mission by establishing an educational trust in 1908 that continues to serve thousands of students across the region. The temple showcases colorful carved figures and painted walls within its shrines that reflect local worship traditions and artistic heritage.
