Shiv Mandir, Ambarnath

The temple exemplifies Hemadpanthi architectural style, carved from black basalt stone. Its most distinctive feature is the sunken sanctum, which lies approximately 20 steps below ground level—an unusual design in Hindu temple architecture. The sanctum's roof opens directly to the sky because the temple's shikhara (spire) was never completed or was deliberately truncated.
