Ramakrishna Madam

The temple maintains a structured daily rhythm of worship. Mangala Arati, the opening ceremony, begins at 5:00 am and is followed by chanting of Sri Ramakrishna Mangalasasanam, Vedic hymns, and verses from the Bhagavad Gita. The daily Nitya Puja—traditional worship of Sri Ramakrishna—takes place around 7:30 am, performed by a monastic of the Math. Evening Arati occurs at 6:30 pm, followed by chanting and bhajans.

The Math observes a regular schedule of scriptural chanting throughout the week. Siva Puranam is chanted every Monday, while Vishnu Sahasranam is recited on the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Fridays. Lalitha Sahasranam is chanted on the 2nd and 4th Fridays. On Ekadashi days, Sri Ramanama Sankirtananam (chanting of the name of Rama) takes place. Bhajans are sung on Sundays until 7:30 pm, and on other days until 7:15 pm.

Spiritual Programmes and Discourses

Religious discourses on the Bhagavad Gita, the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna, and related scriptures are held every Saturday and Sunday from 5:45 pm to 6:30 pm, delivered by monks or eminent speakers. These sessions provide opportunities for deeper engagement with spiritual teachings.

The Math periodically organises spiritual retreats for devotees, typically running from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. These retreats combine discourses, bhajans, archana (ritual worship), meditation, nama parayana (continuous repetition of divine names), and question-and-answer sessions. Special pujas are performed on significant days throughout the year, including Kalpataru Day, Pongal, Maha Shivaratri, Sri Rama Navami, Navaratri with Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja, Deepavali, and other auspicious occasions. The Math also celebrates the birthdays of great spiritual teachers and incarnations.

Festivals and Celebrations

The Math observes all major religious festivals with special pujas and celebrations. These include Ramanavami, Shivratri, Janmashtami, Kali Puja, and Durga Puja, along with other auspicious days in the Hindu calendar. Deepavali is marked with Kali Puja, and Karthikai Deepam is also celebrated. The Math honours Vaikuntha Ekadashi and performs Akhanda Nama Japam (continuous chanting of divine names) on designated occasions.

Beyond the main festivals, the Math conducts occasional special observances such as Thiruvilakku Puja (a lamp worship ritual), complete chanting of Thiruvasakam, and Vidyarthi Homa (a ritual for students). Matri Puja, honouring the Divine Mother, is also performed at the Math.

Visiting Information

The temple is open from 5:00 am to 8:30 am in the morning and from 3:40 pm to 8:00 pm in the afternoon and evening. The main aartis occur at 5:00 am (Mangala Arati) and 6:30 pm (Evening Arati). Visitors are welcome to join in worship, bhajans, meditation, or silent prayer. The office operates Monday to Saturday from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm for enquiries.
