Located approximately three kilometers from Thuraiyur in Tiruchirappalli district, Tamil Nadu, this temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu stands at 960 feet elevation on the Perumalmalai hill within the Pachaimalai range. The temple features 1,532 steps leading to the summit, with a five-kilometer motorable road also available for ascent. According to tradition, the temple was established by the grandchildren of Chola king Karikala. The site holds significance in the Gunaseela Mahaatmiyam mentioned in the Bhavishyotra Puranas, with legends describing how Gunaseela Rishi performed penance to bring Lord Venkatachalapathy's presence to the location. The temple is particularly notable for operating a government-licensed mental health rehabilitation center, the first of its kind in Tamil Nadu, where individuals with mental health challenges remain for 48-day treatment periods involving sacred water rituals and psychiatric care.
