About Pohlani Mata Temple

Pohlani Mata Temple sits at approximately 1,200 meters elevation on Dainkund Peak in Rakhed village, roughly 8 to 12 kilometers from Dalhousie. The location offers expansive views across the surrounding landscape, including vistas of the Pir Pinjal range. The temple is set within forested terrain, creating a tranquil environment distinct from busier pilgrimage sites. A teahouse operates at the temple, providing refreshment for visitors. Parking is available, and the final approach is walkable and suitable for most visitors, including children and seniors, though the site is not wheelchair accessible. The moderate crowd levels and easy walking difficulty make it accessible for a range of pilgrims and tourists.

Visiting Hours and Best Times

The temple is open daily from 06:00 to 19:00. The most favorable seasons for a visit are March through June and September through November, when weather conditions in the Himalayan foothills are mild and stable. Morning hours are generally considered the best time of day for a visit. An ideal visit typically requires two hours. Entry to the temple is free. Visitors should dress modestly as is customary at Hindu temples, and remove footwear before entering the inner sanctum.

Worship and Devotional Practices

Devotees visit the temple to seek the goddess's protection and to fulfill vows. During the nine days of Navratri, the temple sees increased pilgrimage as devotees arrive with specific requests for the goddess's intervention. When prayers are answered, it is customary for devotees to make offerings at the temple, including ritual feasts known as hazari, as an expression of gratitude. The peaceful forest setting supports both formal worship and personal meditation, allowing visitors to engage spiritually with the site.

Reaching the Temple

The temple is most easily accessed from Dalhousie, which lies approximately 8 to 12 kilometers away depending on the route. It is also reachable from Dharamshala, situated roughly 10 kilometers distant. The temple's proximity to these towns makes it a practical stop for travelers in the region. Visitors should plan their journey to arrive within operating hours and allow adequate time for the approach walk and time spent at the shrine.
