About Parshuram Temple, Chiplun

Nestled in the lush hills of Chiplun in Maharashtra's Ratnagiri district, Parshuram Devasthan stands as a sacred pilgrimage site established through the efforts of Swami Paramhans Brahmendra in the early 18th century. The temple was constructed with support from notable historical figures including Siddi Rasul Yakut Khan in 1700, Chatrapati Shahu Maharaj, and Kanhoji Angre, who collectively provided financial resources and land grants for its maintenance. The sanctum houses idols of Lord Parshuram, Kal, and Kam, with a nearby shrine dedicated to Goddess Renuka, his mother. The temple exemplifies Hindu-Muslim architectural fusion, featuring stone walls, intricate carvings, and is surrounded by tranquil natural beauty including a temple tank and ancient cave. According to mythology, Parshuram created the Konkan region by shooting an arrow into the Arabian Sea, making him the presiding deity of the region. The temple draws thousands of devotees annually during Parshuram Jayanti, which coincides with Akshaya Tritiya, offering visitors opportunities for spiritual rituals, daily aartis, and panoramic views of the Vashishti River valley.
