About Madhur Temple
This ancient temple, situated seven kilometers from Kasaragod town on the Mogral River (locally called Madhuvahini), honors Lord Shiva in his form as Madanantheshwara, the deity who conquered desire, while simultaneously giving prominence to Lord Ganesha facing south within the sanctum. The temple represents a distinctive architectural and spiritual tradition where Shiva and Ganesha receive equal reverence, a rarity in Hindu temple practice. The priesthood belongs to the Shivalli Brahmin community, and the temple houses several subsidiary deities including Kashi Vishwanatha, Dharmasastha, Subrahmanya, Durga Parameshwari, Veerabhadra, Gulika, and Goddess Parvati. The temple is managed by the government and serves as an important spiritual center, with devotees offering prayers and the famous prasad known as 'Appa'.
