Located in Kadugodi, Bangalore, this historic temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and traces its origins to the reign of Chola King Rajendra Chola. The locality's name derives from Kannada words—'Kadu' meaning forest and 'Gudi' meaning temple—reflecting the temple's construction in a dense forest centuries ago. The temple's architecture exhibits strong resemblance to the Ganga dynasty style that preceded the Cholas. Ancient inscriptions on the temple's basement refer to the deity as Rajadhi Raja Bhangisvaramhow. The original Shiva Linga mentioned in these inscriptions was replaced with one brought from Varanasi. The temple was historically the only shrine in an area spanning approximately 15 kilometers, earning the region the Sanskrit name 'Aranya Puri'. A small village developed around the temple, beginning with the priest's residence, whose descendants continue to perform rituals at the shrine.
