About Jnaneshwar Paduka Mandir

Shree Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj Samadhi Mandir is a spiritually significant temple dedicated to Sant Dnyaneshwar (also known as Mauli), a 13th-century Marathi philosopher renowned for composing the Dnyaneshwari, a translation and commentary on the Bhagavad Gita. Devotees regard him as an avatar of Lord Krishna. The temple was constructed in 1570 at the site where Dnyaneshwar attained samadhi—a meditative state of spiritual transcendence—at the young age of 21. Situated 22 kilometers from Pune in Alandi on the Indrayani River's banks, the shrine houses a silver embodiment of the saint and attracts pilgrims year-round, particularly during the Hindu months of Ashadh and Karthik when festive celebrations and the sacred Palkhi procession to Pandharpur occur. Visitors can offer flowers, study the Dnyaneshwari text alongside devotees, meditate beneath the tree where Dnyaneshwar gained spiritual knowledge, and enjoy the serene riverside atmosphere.
