About Jambukesvarar Temple, Nallichery

Located in Nallicheri village of Thanjavur district, Tamil Nadu, Jambukesvarar Temple stands as a significant Hindu sanctuary devoted to Lord Shiva. The temple holds deep mythological roots, with legend recounting that Nandi, Shiva's divine bull, performed 1,008 Pradosha Poojas at this sacred site to receive the Lord's blessings. According to tradition, Shiva was so pleased with Nandi's unwavering devotion that he placed his lotus feet upon the bull, an event commemorated in the temple's sculptural depictions. The village itself was originally called Nandi Mangai before being renamed Nallicheri over centuries. As one of the seven sacred Saptha Mangai Sthalams dedicated to the Saptha Matrikas, the temple serves as a beacon of spiritual devotion for the surrounding community, hosting daily worship, cultural gatherings, and traditional rituals that strengthen communal bonds.
