Clairwood Shree Siva Soobramoniar Temple
About Clairwood Shree Siva Soobramoniar Temple
Located in Clairwood, the historic heart of Durban's Indian community, this temple honors Muruga through the form of Shiva-Subrahmanyar. Founded in 1889, the temple has endured through decades of challenges to preserve Hindu culture and heritage. A comprehensive renovation undertaken in 2014 by master craftsmen from India restored the temple to its former glory. The completion of this restoration was marked by the Maha Kumbha Abhishekam ceremony, commemorating 125 years since the temple's establishment. The shrine has become a sanctuary for spiritual seekers and a gathering place for the community, particularly during the annual Thaipusam Kavady Festival celebration.
