About Choleesvarar Temple, Mulanur

Located in Mulanur, Tharapuram taluk, Tiruppur district, Choleesvarar Temple is an east-facing Shiva sanctuary believed to date from the seventeenth century or possibly 1000-2000 years old according to various sources. The temple features a sanctum sanctorum housing the presiding deity Choleesvarar in linga form, with the consort Soundarya Nayaki in a separate shrine. The complex includes shrines dedicated to Dakshinamurti, Brahma, Vishnu, Chandikeswara, Muruga with his consorts Valli and Deivanai, Vinayaka, Kasi Viswanatha, Nataraja, Kala Bhairava, and the Navagrahas. A distinctive 60-foot tall deepasthamba (light post) adorned with Lord Muruga, Sri Anjaneya, and an elephant stands before the temple, with a grand Maha Deepa lit during Karthika Day in November-December that burns for a week. The temple observes numerous festivals and special pujas including Thai Poosam, Vaikasi Visakam, Panguni Uthiram, Maha Shivrathri with four-time pujas, and Aipasi Annabishekam.
