About Azhakodi Devi Temple
Located in Thiruthiyadu within Kozhikode city, Azhakodi Devi Mahakshethram stands as one of Kerala's prominent Devi temples. The shrine originated during the era of the Samoothiri rulers, when it was known as Arikkodikkavu before being renamed in 1965. The temple's sanctum contains seven maternal incarnations—Brahmani, Maheshwari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Indrani, and Chamundi—alongside a revered Shivalinga. According to tradition, the Samoothiri entrusted six generals with the temple and presented them with an idol of Bhavani Devi, a gift from Gujarati traders, to be placed adjacent to the existing Bhagavathi idol. The temple complex includes an attached Kalyana Mandapam capable of accommodating 1000 guests, with dining facilities for 400 people simultaneously.
