About Adinatha Perumal Temple

Sri Adinatha Aazhwar Temple, situated in Alwarthirunagari in Thoothukudi district, Tamil Nadu, approximately 26 kilometers from Tirunelveli, stands as a prominent Vaishnavite shrine constructed in the Dravidian architectural style. The temple enshrines Adinathar, a form of Vishnu depicted in a standing posture facing east, with his consort Lakshmi worshipped as Adinathanayaki. Recognized as one of the 108 Divya Desams and celebrated in the Naalayira Divya Prabandham composed by Alwar saints between the 6th and 9th centuries, the temple represents a significant pilgrimage destination. It is also classified among the Navatirupathi, the nine sacred temples revered by Nammalvar along the Tamiraparani river banks, and holds the distinction of being the most prominent among these nine temples. The shrine is further designated as a Navagraha temple in Vaishnavism, specifically associated with the planet Jupiter or Brihaspati. The temple features the Govinda Gopuram as its tower and Brahma Theertham as its sacred tank, surrounded by a granite wall enclosing its shrines.
