Vishnupad Temple
About Vishnupad Temple
Located on the banks of the Phalgu River in Gaya, Bihar, Vishnupad Temple stands as a significant pilgrimage destination dedicated to Vishnu. The temple's most sacred feature is the Dharmasila, a basalt block bearing a 40-centimeter footprint attributed to Vishnu, believed to have been created when the deity stepped upon the demon Gayasura's chest before eternally pinning him underground. The temple's distinctive riverside setting is surrounded by rugged rocks on three sides with the river forming the fourth boundary, creating a unique spiritual landscape. The site holds particular significance for performing Pind Daan, a Hindu ritual for ancestral salvation, drawing devotees throughout the year seeking blessings and performing ancestral rites.
