Arulmigu Mavootru Velappar Temple stands as a significant pilgrimage destination with more than five centuries of history. According to local tradition, members of the Pazhiar community unearthed a self-manifested idol of Velappar while cultivating valli kizhangu near a mango tree, subsequently reporting the discovery to the local Zamindar who commissioned the temple's construction. The shrine features a dual-structure design with a hilltop sanctuary housing the primary deity and a foothill shrine containing shrines dedicated to Sakthi, Karuppanna Swami, and Mavootru Vinayaka. A perennial spring flows beneath the ancient mango tree, which serves as the temple's sacred tree, and locals attribute medicinal properties to its waters. The temple attracts thousands of devotees annually, particularly during major festivals including Chithrai Thiruvizha in April-May, Navaratri in September-October, and the Cradle Festival in November-December.
