About Vedapureeswarar Temple, Thiruverkadu
Located in Thiruverkadu municipality within Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, this Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva stands as a significant spiritual landmark spanning approximately two acres. The presiding deity Vedapureeswarar is represented through the sacred lingam, while the consort goddess appears as Balambigai. The temple complex features two gateway towers positioned opposite the sanctums of both deities. Originally constructed before the 7th century CE by the Cholas, the temple underwent reconstruction in 1973 under G. Yegneswaran's direction. Today it remains under the stewardship of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of Tamil Nadu's government. The shrine is classified as a Paadal Petra Sthalam, having been celebrated in the devotional hymns of the Nayanar saints.
