About Sita Gufa
Located in Panchavati near Kalaram Mandir, Sita Gufa is a natural basalt cave formed millions of years ago that holds deep significance in Hindu tradition. According to the Ramayana, when the demoness Shurpanakha attacked Sita out of jealousy, Rama instructed Lakshmana to take Sita to a hidden mountain cave for protection while he single-handedly defeated an army of 14,000 demons sent by the demon king Khara. The cave's narrow, low passages and natural coolness are believed to embody the earth's protective embrace. Within the cave stands an ancient Shivlinga that Sita is said to have worshipped during her exile to protect Rama and Lakshmana. The site is considered to possess strong earth energy and draws devotees throughout the day for darshan and aarti, with the atmosphere intensifying during evening rituals and festival celebrations.
