About the temple

The Shankaragaurishvara Temple is a 9th-century Hindu shrine in Pattan, Kashmir, built by King Shankaravarman of the Utpala dynasty and dedicated to Lord Shiva. Now in ruins, it remains an important example of ancient Kashmiri architectural heritage. The shrine draws devotees through the day for darshan and aarti, with the atmosphere reaching its peak during the evening rituals and on festival days when special pujas are performed.
