About Perur Pateeswarar Temple
This sacred temple, established in the 2nd century CE by Karikala Chola, enshrines a Swayambu Lingam as its primary deity. The presiding deity is Patteeswaraswamy (Shiva), accompanied by his consort Pachainayaki (Parvati). According to temple lore, the shrine earned the name 'Piravaanila Neri Thalam' (the path of liberation) when Lord Shiva granted moksha to Kamadhenu, the celestial cow, who performed penance at this sacred site. The temple has been patronized by renowned poets including Arunagirinathar and Kachiappa Munivar, and remains one of the most celebrated Kongu region temples dedicated to Shiva.
