Nannesvara Temple, Lakkundi
About Nannesvara Temple, Lakkundi
The Nannesvara Temple stands as a significant architectural achievement from the Kalyana Chalukya period, built during the 11th century using soapstone, a material favored by the Chalukyas and Hoysalas. The structure exemplifies an Ekakuta design with a single chamber, featuring a raised platform called Jagati and an ornately pillared Mandapa that transitions through a closed hall to the inner sanctum or Garbhagraha. Positioned immediately west of the larger Kasivisvesvara Temple, it represents one of the earliest examples of imperial temple design from this era and showcases a distinctive synthesis of North and South Indian architectural schools. The temple's refined craftsmanship and stylistic elements make it a notable example of early Chalukyan temple construction.
