Mahavir Mandir
About Mahavir Mandir
Located directly opposite Patna Junction railway station, Mahavir Mandir stands as one of the largest Hanuman temples in North India with a height of 57 meters and a three-level structure spanning 10,000 square feet. Originally established around 1730 CE by Swami Balanand of the Ramanandi sect, the temple gained prominence after India's partition in 1947 when Hindu refugees arrived in Patna. The current marble structure was built in 1987, replacing an earlier concrete edifice. The temple houses a statue of Sankat Mochan, an incarnation of Hanuman representing the remover of obstacles and divine intervention in human difficulties. Managed by the Mahavir Mandir Temple Trust with Acharya Kishore Kunal as secretary, the temple generates daily earnings exceeding 10 lakh rupees, making it second only to Vaishno Devi in northern India's temple revenues. The temple welcomes over 20,000 pilgrims daily, with numbers multiplying on Tuesdays, Saturdays, and major festivals like Rama Navami and Hanuman Jayanti.
