About Mahadev Temple, Deobaloda

This ancient Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva stands as a significant architectural and spiritual landmark in the Durg district of Chhattisgarh. Built during the 13th century CE by the Kalchuris, the temple was reportedly constructed in just six months, earning it the epithet '6 Maashi' temple. The east-facing structure features sandstone construction with a sanctum sanctorum housing a 1.5-foot Shiva Linga, approached through an ornately carved doorway guarded by Shaiva dwarpalas. The pillared assembly hall displays elaborate carvings of Bhairava, Vishnu, Mahishasura Mardini, and various celestial figures. A sacred kund within the temple complex is believed to connect via underground tunnel to the ancient town of Arang. The temple draws substantial devotional gatherings during Mahashivratri, when nearby villagers converge for blessings accompanied by a local fair.
