Kukke Subramanya Temple
About Kukke Subramanya Temple
Situated in the Western Ghats at the foot of Kumara Parvatha in Subramanya village, this ancient temple is one of seven Mukti Kshetras established by sage Parashurama according to the Skanda Purana. The shrine is renowned for its signature Sarpa Samskara ritual, a two-day Vedic ceremony performed to neutralise serpent doshas from astrological charts. The temple's spiritual significance stems from the legend that Vasuki, the serpent king, sought refuge under Lord Subramanya's protection here. Priests belonging to the Shivalli Madhwa Brahmin community conduct all daily rituals following Madhvacharya's Tantra Sara Sangraha. The temple also hosts the grand Champa Shashti festival culminating in November with a 15-day celebration featuring divine wedding ceremonies, chariot processions with temple elephants, and the Lakshadeepotsava lamp festival.
