Karpaka Vinayakar Temple
About Karpaka Vinayakar Temple
The temple maintains a structured daily schedule of worship centred on ritual ablutions and offerings to the deity. Five major ceremonies occur throughout the day: the Thiruvanandal Abhishekam at 06:00, the Kaalasanthi Abhishekam at 08:30, the Uchikalam Abhishekam at 11:30, the Maalaisanthi at 17:00, and the Iravusanthi at 19:45. Each ceremony involves bathing the deity with sacred substances and flowers, a practice common across Hindu temples.
The temple opens at 06:00 in the morning and closes at 13:30, reopening at 16:00 until 20:30 in the evening. Devotees may time their visits to coincide with these ritual moments, when the deity receives formal worship. The extended evening hours accommodate those unable to visit during daytime.
Vinayagar Chaturthi and Seasonal Festivals
The most significant observance at the temple is Vinayagar Chaturthi, celebrated annually during the Tamil month of Aavani. This ten-day festival begins with flag hoisting and ritual preparations, followed by cultural programmes from the sixth day onwards. The deity is carried in procession through the village streets each day, seated in different vehicles: the silver mouse vahanam on the first day, followed by lion, bull, lotus, silver bull, silver elephant, peacock, horse, and combined car and elephant vahanas on successive days. The festival concludes with a water procession on the tenth day.
From November through January, the temple observes Thaipoosam and Sabari Malai celebrations, extending its opening hours to 06:00 AM to 08:30 PM during this period to accommodate increased devotional activity.
Facilities for Visitors
The temple provides several amenities for pilgrims. Accommodation is available through the temple trust, with 60 rooms maintained at affordable rates. Free parking is offered across three designated lots. Wheelchair assistance is available for those with mobility needs. A hospital facility, established in 1991, provides basic medical support. The temple also offers annadhanam—the practice of providing food to devotees and those in need—as part of its service to visitors.
Locker rooms and shoe stands are provided for the security and convenience of worshippers. Wedding halls are available for hire, and various pooja services can be arranged through the temple office.
