Kalupur Swaminarayan Mandir
About Kalupur Swaminarayan Mandir
Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Kalupur stands as a landmark of early 19th-century Gujarati temple architecture, blending Rajasthani, Marathi, Gujarati, and British design influences. The temple was constructed following a land grant from the British Imperial Government in 1818 and officially inaugurated on 24 February 1822, with approximately 50,000 devotees present. It was the first temple of the Swaminarayan Sampraday built according to scriptural norms. The structure showcases ornately carved wooden ceilings and balconies in rich teak with lace-like detailing, vividly painted façades combining local Gujarati artistry with sacred iconography, and decorative sculptures including a flying Hanuman and South Indian-style Ganesha. The sanctum houses multiple deities including NarNarayan Dev, Radha Krishna Dev, and Bal Swarup Ghanshyam Maharaj, all elaborately adorned. The complex also contains a multi-storey guesthouse and medical clinic, functioning as both a spiritual center and community hub.
