Hidimba Devi Temple
About Hidimba Devi Temple
This sacred temple honors Hidimbi Devi, a legendary figure from the Mahabharata who transformed from a demoness into a revered goddess through devotion. According to mythology, during the Pandavas' exile, Bhima defeated the demon Hidimb and subsequently married his sister Hidimba with the blessings of Kunti. The temple structure, approximately 500 years old, was constructed in 1553 by Maharaja Bahadur Singh and features a distinctive wooden architecture. The sanctuary is built over a massive rock formation that protrudes from the ground and was traditionally worshipped as an image of the deity. Nestled within the Dhungiri Van Vihar cedar forest near Manali's Mall Road, the temple offers visitors a tranquil spiritual experience surrounded by Himalayan pine forests and natural beauty.
