Camp Hanuman Temple
About Camp Hanuman Temple
Founded in the early 1920s by Pandit Gajanan Prasad, this centuries-old shrine has evolved from a modest structure into a prominent spiritual center serving both civilians and armed forces personnel. Located within the verdant Ahmedabad Cantonment, the temple maintains a serene environment rare for major urban temples. The deity's idol is traditionally adorned with orange sindoor, and the shrine is managed by the Shri Hanumanji Mandir Camp Trust. Local lore recounts that during the British era, when authorities attempted demolition to expand the military base, swarms of wasps attacked workers, prompting preservation of the original site. The temple experiences peak devotion on Tuesdays and Saturdays, when visitors perform Sundarkand path and Hanuman Chalisa recitations. Visitors must pass security checks and carry valid identification due to the cantonment location.
