Budha Ganesha Temple

Jajpur, Odisha Est. 11th century CE

About Budha Ganesha Temple

This ancient Hindu temple, constructed in the 11th century CE using Khondalite stone, showcases the distinctive Rekha and Pidha architectural elements characteristic of Kalinga design. The sanctum houses the central idol of Budha (elderly) Ganesha alongside sculptures of Lord Vishnu, Mahishasuramardini, and the Jain Tirthankara Shantinath, reflecting a syncretic blend of Hindu and Jain religious influences in the region. Positioned near Dasashwamedh Ghat on the western bank of the Baitarani River, the temple benefits from a serene riverside setting framed by palm groves and paddy fields. The name "Budha Ganesha" emphasizes the deity's depiction in elderly form, signifying wisdom and life experience. The temple is particularly significant during Ganesh Chaturthi and serves as a spiritual center for devotees seeking the obstacle-remover deity's blessings.
