Bishnupaduka (shrine)
About Bishnupaduka (shrine)
Located in the northwestern region of Dharan in Sunsari district, Bishnupaduka shrine marks a site of profound spiritual significance where a rock bearing two distinct footprints is venerated as the imprint of Lord Vishnu. The discovery of these markings prompted the construction of a temple to honor the deity. The shrine holds particular importance during the month of Paush, when pilgrims gather to perform Shraddha rituals for their ancestors. According to Hindu tradition, this location is referenced in the Brahma Purana and is considered among the principal pilgrimage destinations for ancestral rites, alongside Gokarna in Kathmandu and Betrawati in Rasuwa. The spiritual community regards Bishnupaduka as possessing antiquity and sanctity comparable to or exceeding that of Gaya in India.
