About the temple

The Ashtalakshmi Kovil, built between 1974–1976 on the wishes of Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal of Kanchi Mutt, is a unique seaside temple in Chennai dedicated to the eight forms of Goddess Lakshmi. Its distinctive Om-shaped architecture allows devotees to view all eight shrines without entering any enclosed sanctum. The shrine draws devotees through the day for darshan and aarti, with the atmosphere reaching its peak during the evening rituals and on festival days when special pujas are performed.
