Aryankavu Sastha Temple
About Aryankavu Sastha Temple
Located in the mountain pass near Punalur between Kerala and Tamil Nadu, Aryankavu Sastha Temple stands eleven meters below road level beside the Rajakoop stream. The temple's idol is believed to have been consecrated by Parashurama. Unlike Sabarimala where Ayyappa is worshipped as a celibate ascetic, Aryankavu presents the Poornashastar—the fulfilled Sastha—showing the deity in his complete householder form flanked by his consorts whose names signify completeness and abundance. The architectural design masterfully blends Kerala's wooden craftsmanship with Tamil Nadu's stone sculpting traditions, featuring eighteen sacred steps adorned with intricate murals of Hindu deities. The temple follows Tamil Agamic ritual traditions and is governed by the Travancore Devaswom Board. The annual Thiru Kalyanam festival in December celebrates the divine marriage of Ayyappa and Pushkaladevi according to Saurashtra customs, drawing pilgrims seeking marital and family blessings.
