Alopi Devi Mandir
About Alopi Devi Mandir
Situated in Alopibagh near the holy Sangam where the Ganges, Yamuna, and legendary Saraswati rivers converge, Alopi Devi Mandir stands as an extraordinary spiritual site. Unlike conventional temples with ornate idols, this sacred sanctuary houses an empty palanquin placed on a raised platform, believed to embody the mystical presence of Goddess Alopi who vanished into the ether. The temple's origins trace to the late 18th century when Maratha warrior Shreenath Mahadji Shinde developed the Sangam area during his residence in Prayagraj from 1771–1772. Subsequent renovations were undertaken by Maharani Baizabai Scindia in the 1800s. The temple welcomes devotees from all backgrounds and maintains a tranquil, well-maintained environment that facilitates deep spiritual connection and meditation.
