Achankovil Sastha Temple
About Achankovil Sastha Temple
Situated approximately 1000 metres above sea level in a small village within the Western Ghats near the Tamil Nadu border, Achankovil Sree Dharmasastha Temple stands as a significant pilgrimage site dedicated to Lord Ayyappa (Dharmasastha). The temple's most distinctive feature is the sacred sandal paste offered to devotees, which is believed to possess curative properties for poisonous snakebites. According to Hindu tradition, the deity governs the planet Saturn and is worshipped to mitigate the adverse effects of 'Sani Dosham'. Unlike many other Ayyappa temples, this shrine welcomes women of all ages into its sanctum. The temple follows Tamil ritual traditions due to its geographical location and is administered by the Travancore Devaswom Board. The serene landscape and spiritual atmosphere make it a sanctuary for devotees seeking both physical healing and inner peace.
